ACANTHA - Eastern Ringed Xenica

“From flowering plant to the bark of a tree, ACANTHA is careful not to be caught too long in the open. For in the open, where the Wing species fly, lies danger. Using Mimic, he can confuse them by the startling presence of eyespots on his wings. But predators are not his major concern: Humans are poisoning the crops ACANTHA calls home! The nectar that once sustained him now greets him with death. And if they’re not being poisoned, the fields often disappear under buildings! ACANTHA can help a Ranger in floods and droughts, and as a BASE species is a critical part of your ecosystem. But beware - he is small and Rare, and may need early protection.”

ANiMOZ #404

Code: ACANTHA

Common name: Eastern ringed xenica

Taxonomy: Geitoneura acantha

Superpowers:

Mimic

ACANTHA uses his colourful markings, and clever ‘eye-like’ spots, to confuse predators. The patterns on his wings look like the eyes of large Wing species, and startle predators into making a hasty retreat!

Morph

ACANTHA starts life as a caterpillar, before enacting her MORPH Superpower by spinning a silky cocoon in which to completely transform her body! She will emerge as an amazing butterfly!

Weaknesses:

Poison

Sadly, ACANTHA is at risk from poison that is found on gardens and crops across her BiOME. She feeds on the pollen of flowers, so when a pesticide has been used, she is in real danger.

OMNi

ACANTHA loses a Clash against any Omni species.
