ABOUT THE SPECIES
The Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat is at great risk with only a handful of isolated, remnant populations left. One of the largest populations is predicted to be extinct by 2050 at the current rate of decline! SHN are culled en masse both legally and illegally and are dying from malnutrition and starvation annually each summer as they inhabit some of the most arid regions of SA.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
Wombat Awareness Organisation is a non-profit organisation specialising in the rescue, rehabilitation and advocacy of the Southern Hairy-nosed Wombat. We aim to develop strategies to keep the wild population healthy, safe and free! We are proudly the only free range, cage free wombat sanctuary!
