ABOUT THE SPECIES
The Black-throated finch is a small peachy coloured, grass seed-eating bird that lives in the woodlands of eastern Queensland. It once lived from north Queensland all the way down to New South Wales. However, much of its former habitat has been cleared for agriculture, and most of the remaining habitat is used for grazing cows. There are plans to convert some of the remaining habitat into new housing developments and coal mines. It has a sweet little call and is constantly on the move, often in small flocks, looking for more grass seeds to eat.
ABOUT THE ORGANISATION
The Black-throated Finch Recovery Team consists of a group of volunteers who are experts on the finch and manage some of the land the finch occurs on. The Team organise an annual waterhole count in north Queensland to monitor the population. The Team speak with other interested parties such as governments and land holders to try to get better outcomes for this little bird.
